Dr. Ahmed Yousif Ali
Head, Psychiatry Department
Dr. Ali is a consultant Psychiatrist and Head of Psychiatry Section, at the National Rehabilitation Centre, Abu Dhabi, and UAE. He joined the NRC in 2002 as a member of the founding team. He worked in the United Kingdom, where he trained at St George’s Hospital Medical School, University of London, training scheme in Psychiatry, between 1994 and 2000. He held a Research Fellowship post at the medical school and was a tutor of the MIND module in Psychiatry and an examiner in Psychiatry from 1996-1999. He became a member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists in 2001 and was elected to the Fellowship of the college in 2013. He was appointed as Head of Treatment & Rehabilitation from 2003-2007 and was Medical Director of the National Rehabilitation Centre from 2007-2011. He has special expertise in smoking cessation clinics, and regularly contributes to the field through accredited modules and was co-author in an international effort, preparing and publishing “The Smoking Cessation Guidelines for Africa and The Middle East in 2012.” He contributes regularly in the efforts to raise public awareness about addictions, through the media and has published many articles in peer reviewed journals. Dr Ali is currently an Editor of the Journal of Substance Abuse Treatment, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA, and is a member of the American Society of Addiction medicine.
